Description	Crerecombinase,oftenabbreviatedtoCre,isaTypeItopoisomerasefromP1bacteriophagethatcatalyzessite-specificrecombinationofDNAbetweenloxPsites.Thisenzymedoesnotrequireanyenergycofactors,andCre-mediatedrecombinationquicklyreachesequilibriumbetweensubstrateandreactionproducts.TheloxPrecognitionelementisa34basepair(bp)sequencecomposedoftwo13bpinvertedrepeatsflankingan8bpspacerregionwhichconfersdirectionality.RecombinationproductsaredependentonthelocationandrelativeorientationoftheloxPsites.TwoDNAspeciescontainingsingleloxPsiteswillbefusedwhilstDNAbetweenloxPsitesinthesameorientationwillbeexcisedincircularformandDNAbetweenopposingloxPsiteswillbeinvertedwithrespecttotherestoftheDNA.
